Answering the questions: Which of the poems had the most meaning for you personally? and What ideas or feelings seem most significant to you and why?
The song by Francesca Battistelli, Free to be Me, is most meaningful to me because this song expresses how even though some things are already handed to you, it is up to you to change the circumstances and make it for the better, even though I do not always see what the big picture is, I have to trust that there are “great plans for me”. This song also talks about all the troubles along the road and how even though you may be hurt, it is an opportunity to rebuild yourself as a stronger person, just like when a bone breaks, it grows back stronger. This song also relates to me because I am a clumsy person and Free to be Me directly addresses the fact that it is alright to lean on somebody for help and to be yourself around them. As well, on those cold, dreary mornings when it does not seem like I can make a difference or change anything, this song reminds me that I have what it takes within me and that I am perfect, just the way I am. Because things will never be perfect, making mistakes will only aid in “[trying] to fit the pieces together.”
The idea of being lonely, has surely crossed everyone’s minds at one point or another, however, it is almost impossible to be truly alone. One can be alone in his own head but physically there are too many people surrounding him. People may be there physically but the cause of loneliness is most likely from being an outsider or just not connecting with the people around him. Although it is almost impossible to be physically alone, it is very possible to be mentally or emotionally alone, after all no one knows the inner workings of anyone’s hearts. Being alone is very significant because everybody has days when they just want to be by themselves and our world makes it very hard to be able to sit down in a quiet place and simply think. Another idea that is very significant to me is the idea of magical moments resurfacing from memories. Everyone has memories, some more memorable than others. Memories serve as our life story, drawing up images of the magical moments we have had in our lives and I firmly believe that everyone is entitled to these magical memories.
